I smell summer!  I feel the excitement from the top of my head down to my toes.  The smell of summer is in the air, the heat feels different and the color of daylight is even brighter.  Most of us have been conditioned since a young age that summer break means freedom, fun, no school and lots of time outside.  I personally remember it as a time where you step away from your daily routines, friends and responsibilities that happen during the school year.  When we are old enough to maintain a full time job the vision of summer takes on a different perspective.  Most people as adults must take the time off from work to experience the freedom from responsibilities.  As adults we lose the perspective of all the possibilities summer can bring.

Turning up the Heat of Summer refers to the thought process of never losing the care free nature of summer, no matter what stage of life you are in.  Some of the most beautiful moments of summer are when the sun rises and the sun sets.  We can always count on this daily occurrence no matter we are in the world,  I had one of my Instagram followers remind that it isn’t summer everywhere.  They live in South Africa and they told me it is winter there now and they are craving the heat of summer.  If it is winter where you live then this philosophy is something you can prepare for when your summer arrives.  Life is busy and some of us are on the never ending hamster wheel and we don’t take the time to watch the beauty of sunrises and sunsets.  This will have a negative effect on your mental health.

Close your eyes for a moment and picture vividly what summer represents for you.  To have success there must always be a plan in place.  Today you are lucky because you are reading this blog just as summer is about to grace us with it’s presence.  I don’t know about you but I always have all the ideas of what I want my summer to be.  When the end of summer comes, I am disappointed because I didn’t experience half of what I wanted.

It is time to put a stop to our unfinished thoughts and desires.  This is the Challenge that I place before you.  I would like you to sit with yourself for some time and think about what summer means to you.  Think about how can you Turn up the Heat this Summer in your life.  Summer should definitely be a time of you being carefree but you should have plans in place to avoid unfinished business.  Travel, the beach, movies, picnics, reading a good book, barbecues, watermelon, July 4th, sailing, hiking, camping and painting.  I could truly go on and on about all of the activities that can be had in summer.  Now it is your turn, pick up your smartphone and list all of the leisure activities that you would love to participate in this summer.  Sit with these thoughts for a little and identify how these ideas make you feel.  I know for me I always get that butterfly feeling in my stomach when I know summer is about to happen.  There is such an excitement knowing what lies ahead of me.  The goal here is for you to get the same butterflies in your stomach when you create your list of summer leisure activities you want to accomplish.

As you look down at your list you now have the ideas out there, let’s start to put these ideas into action.  This is the point where you begin to plan.  Look at planning your summer with excitement and joy of the possibilities.  A good example is traveling.  If you have a place you want to travel to it takes planning, reservations, looking at your finances and transportation.  I am not disregarding spontaneity in life but some activities require some planning.  It also is very important that you give your employer enough notice that you will be taking PTO time.  I am aware that these are all obvious steps but summer comes to an end and many of you will be disappointed that experiences on your list are not checked off.  It’s all about planning, to make your summer dreams come true.

My goal today was to put the idea in your head that summer is almost here and for you to think about what you want to experience.  Realizing, that most of your leisure activities require plans and making dates of commitment to yourself. This blog was just to get you along the thought process that one of the most exciting seasons is upon you. It’s up to you how you want to live it.  I believe you owe it to yourself to sit and think about summer and the plans that you want to accomplish.  It is up to you to take it to the next level by making concrete plans.  Trust me there will be no better feeling as the last summer sun sets and you look back on how all of your summer memories are everything you hoped and wanted them to be.  Remember it’s all in the planning and execution.  So scoot and get off to your planning how you are going to Turn Up the Heat this Summer!
