Building blocks are objects we learn about at a very young age, like creating a pretend fort out of cardboard blocks.  This sets a deep message from within that we put up walls in our daily lives. The stronger the blocks are the harder it is to break through.  Mental Blocks can be experienced throughout our life time.  These blocks can make you feel stuck and unable to move on.

What is a Mental Block?  It is just like the cardboard children’s blocks, they create a wall that stops us.  Mental Blocks are anything that gets in your way from being productive and moving forward in your life.  If you are still struggling with this concept close your eyes for a moment.  Imagine you are walking in a forest leisurely.  You are carefree and all of a sudden you step in a gooey type of sand like quicksand. .  Your feet just won’t move.  Can you see yourself standing there stuck in the sand?  As you stand there your brain becomes flooded with ways to get you out of this stuck place.  Your brain becomes so overwhelmed that you are unable to problem solve and you remain stuck.  Take a deep breath and begin to allow yourself to empty your thoughts.  This action allows your thoughts to feel more clear and you begin to strategize how to get out of this quicksand. There is a long branch leaning over the sandpit, you reach for it and pull yourself out of the Mental Block and being Stuck. AhHa!  When our brains are cluttered we become Stuck.

I chose this topic today because I was stuck on a topic for this weeks blog and podcast.  The first step in identifying why you are stuck is to do a self analysis of yourself and your thoughts.  Step back for a moment and identify what areas are you Stuck in your life.  This stage is an investigation into yourself and your inner workings.  In my situation I realized that I have been nonstop, losing sleep and overextended in my daily life. My brain is trying to process too many things at one time and it becomes dysfunctional.  Have you ever been in the same place?

We experience Mental Blocks in our work environment, home life and interactions with others. In your work environment you must look at your work area.  Is it organized or disorganized?  It is noisy with many distractions? Do you procrastinate on projects and then feel pressure to finish them?  Do you suffer from Imposter Syndrome? If work is where you are getting Stuck, you must ask yourself these hard questions.

Homelife can become very complicated and an area you can have Mental Blocks.  Is your home organized or disorganized?  Is there clutter all around you? Are there dishes piling up in the sink or is there garbage that needs to be taken out?  Do you make your bed? Do you have any personal quiet space at home?  When you get out of work and go home are you overwhelmed with chores and responsibilities?  What are your relationships like at home?  I need you to ask yourself these questions, if your home life is where you are feeling Stuck.

Interactions with others can be a very tricky area that you might be having a Mental Block. It is hard to look retrospectively at the relationships in our lives. Dysfunctional relationship can lead us to feeling Stuck and paralyzed.  This may mean letting go of Toxic People in your life, setting up firm boundaries with others, blocking individuals on all Social Media, limiting your interactions and expressing your feelings to Toxic people.  This is a huge part of our lives that we can get Stuck in our own thoughts.  Ruminating over your relationships, obsessive thoughts and staying focused on the issues and negativity.

How do we become UnStuck in our Mental Blocks?  I was in that moment today trying to declutter my brain so that I could write this blog.  I realized that I have been nonstop for the past week.  My daughter flew home, we went to visit my daughter in college, went to Halloween Horror nights, staying up to 3 AM for two nights in a row, attending the Ed Sheeran Concert and my daily responsibilities. Jeez, I feel overwhelmed just thinking about all that I have been doing. I sat with myself for a little which I find to be a very therapeutic action.  I was able to clear my thoughts and I realized that I have had no downtime or alone time.  I got ready and I went out by myself to declutter my brain and to spend some time alone.  This action can help to stop obsessive thoughts, anxiety, lift your spirits and allow you to feel lighter and able to tackle life again.  In these moments of solitude the thought came to me, write your blog about Mental Blocks and feeling Stuck. It was that simple and that difficult all at the same time.

Self-discovery can be a challenge for many of us. It might come down to just cleaning up and organizing your environment to be able to think more clearly.  End your patterns of procrastination by preparing for work presentations ahead of time, set up a meeting with the individuals in your life that are creating chaos for you and tell them how you feel.  It might mean letting them go.  In your home life you must create organization, cleanliness and prioritize your responsibilities. The main component of becoming UnStuck is for you to gain control of your life and environment. I have given you some brief ideas of how to clear your Mental Block; however, you know yourself the best and what is best for you.  If you don’t know what is best for you in your current life situation then you must take the time to sit with yourself and get to know you better.

Life is in constant motion and we are ever evolving, changing and dealing with life’s challenges.  It is time to build your inner strength and insight into you.  There is no mathematical equation to getting UnStuck with your Mental Blocks, the answer is it takes you putting in the work and the desire to feel more in control of your own life. If you are feeling Stuck, now is the time for you to take control and create a healthier life for yourself.

PS: Make sure that you get at least 7-9 hours of sleep a night so that you can remain sharp and ready to conquer the following day.  My lack of sleep absolutely put me in the direction of a Mental Block. Sleep, Sleep, Sleep
